In a previous post, I highlighted the benefits of internal communication. Employees do want to feel more connected with their company, its objectives, and to know what is expected of them. Reviewing internal communications across three functions – HR, Ops, and IC – here are some interesting statistics that also include employee experiences.

HR

  • 33% of employees believe that a lack of open, honest communication has the most negative impact on employee morale.  [ Recruiter ]
  • Disengaged employees cost organizations between $450 and $550 billion annually.  [ The Conference Board ]
  • Businesses with effective communication are 50% more likely to have a lower employee turnover.  [ Clear Company ]
  • The most popular method to actively manage and drive employee engagement are drafting employee engagement surveys (55%) and creating culture committees and events (29%).  [ CultureIQ ]
  • Top sources of workplace stress are heavy workload/looming deadlines (33%); unrealistic expectations of managers (22%); attaining work-life balance (22%); and co-worker conflicts (15%).  [ Accountemps ]

Ops

  • Employee productivity increases by 20 to 25% in organizations where employees are connected.  [ Inc ]
  • 74% of employees say they would work harder if they were better appreciated and recognized.  [ Workhuman Research Institute ]
  • Up to 80% of an organization’s opportunity for improvement comes from frontline employees.  [ SoapBox ]
  • Employees who feel their voice is heard at work are 4.6 times more likely to feel empowered to perform their best work.  [ Salesforce ]
  • Only 23% of executives believe their companies are excellent at aligning employee goals with corporate purposes.  [ Deloitte ]

IC

  • 13% of employees strongly agree that the leadership of their organization communicates effectively with the rest of the organization.  [ Gallup ]
  • 74% of employees feel they are missing out on company updates.  [Trade Press Services]
  • 72% of employees do not fully understand the company’s strategy.  [ IBM ]
  • 80% of employees felt more engaged when their work was consistent with the core values and mission of their organization.  [ IBM ]
  • Only 13% of employees reported participating in their intranet daily. 31% said they never do.  [ Prescient Digital Media ]
